The Audio-Technica ATR6550x shotgun microphone offers crisp, intelligible pickup from close or far away. A switch on the microphone’s body allows you to shift easily between “Wide” and “Far” settings. In the “Wide” setting, which is appropriate for close and medium-range miking, the ATR6550x functions as a standard cardioid condenser, focusing pickup on your desired sound source, while blocking noise from the rear and sides. Switching to the “Far” setting causes the polar pattern to narrow to supercardioid, giving you even greater directionality to pick up sound from a distance, while bypassing ambient noise such as traffic, air-handling systems, room reverberation and mechanically coupled vibrations.

The D6 is designed specifically to tackle kick drums and other low-frequency instruments. There is 14dB of boost at 60 Hz, 15dB between 4–5K, and 17dB between 10–12k. The tailored response of this microphone makes it ideal for use with 22-inch bass drums. The D6’s capsule features the same legendary VLM technology that has made the D series percussion and instrument microphones very popular for today’s live stages and recording studios. The VLM diaphragm ensures that the mic responds very quickly to transients, ensuring the attack isn’t lost.
