    Allen & Heath ZED-420 at a Glance:

    • Legacy
    • Best of previous designs
    • USB

    Legacy
The ZED-420 has a fantastic pedigree which comes from nearly 40 years of making mixing desks for the professional sound community. The audio circuitry is based on years of continual development and refinement and the performance of all the elements within the mixer has been perfected to ensure the very best sound quality possible.

    Best of previous designs
The ZED 4-Bus series takes inspiration from different product lines within the A&H range, combining them with fresh new ideas to give stunning results in a neat and easy to use package.
The padless DuoPre mic/line pre-amplifier is the new design first implemented on the ZED-14 and delivers a high-headroom, low-noise signal. The 4-band, 2 sweep EQ, along with the low noise summing amps, is borrowed from the acclaimed GL2400, while the bus architecture is a simplified, but equally comprehensive, version of that employed in the successful GL series.
    USB
The USB audio interface, with its uniquely flexible capability, allows different signals to be sent to USB, from LR or from selected aux buses. The USB return signal can be routed straight to the LR mix or to a stereo channel. The connectors are placed on the top surface for easy plugging & patching, and the construction, with individual circuit boards firmly nutted to the top panel, is as rock solid as Allen & Heath’s top of the range ML Series mixers.

    Allen & Heath ZED-420 Features:

    • 16 Channel
    • 4-band EQ with 2 swept mids and in/out switch
    • 6 auxiliary sends (2 pre, 2 post, 2 pre/post)
    • 4 sub groups fed from each channel
    • L, R and M main mix outputs
    • Individual channel 48V phantom power
    • Direct output on every mono channel
    • 2 dual stereo inputs with 4-band EQ
    • Peak and signal indication on every channel
    • 2 matrix sections available; can send output to USB
    • Configurable USB stereo audio in/out
    • Master level controls on all outputs
    • Easy to use layout – all connections and controls on top surface

Allen & Heath’s ZED-420 brings the best of the past into the present!

    Lightweight Mixer with Impressive Features

The ideal mixer for a lightweight live rig, the Allen & Heath ZED-16FX is just as at home in your studio. It houses enough connectivity for your whole band, thanks to 10 mic/line channels (the preamps sound great, by the way). Three stereo channels are also onboard. The ZED-16FX’s responsive 3-band EQ design features A & H’s MusiQ — a variable Q that makes optimizing each instrument’s tone settings a breeze. You also get high-quality built-in digital effects and stereo USB audio connectivity for capturing quick recordings. Complete with solid-feeling ALPS 100mm faders and effective metering, you can’t go wrong with the ZED-16FX.

DuoPre mic preamps deliver a high-headroom, low-noise signal

Here, we’re impressed by the quality of the ZED-16FX’s DuoPre mic preamps. Derived from Allen & Heath’s popular PA series, DuoPre preamps employ a two-stage design with carefully controlled amounts of gain in each stage. An impressive 69dB is evenly distributed around the gain control. Most of the gain comes from the first stage, minimizing noise. Line level signals are plugged directly into the second stage using the line input jack socket. This results in less noise when using the line input, while also matching to a higher input impedance.

MusiQ provides fast, easy sound shaping

Dialing in each instrument’s tone settings is easy with the ZED-16FX. Its responsive three-band, swept mid-frequency EQ design employs Allen & Heath’s innovative MusiQ, which is essentially a variable Q that automatically optimizes your EQ settings. Thanks to MusiQ, beginners can achieve musically pleasant EQ settings with the ZED-16FX with little effort.

Flexible USB connectivity for Mac and PC

Getting audio in and out of your computer with the ZED-16FX is a simple plug-and-play operation. Just plug in, select the USB routing on the mixer and your computer, and you’re ready to pipe CD-quality audio into and out of your Mac or PC. The ZED-16FX allows different signals to be sent to USB, from LR or from selected aux buses. The USB return signal can be routed straight to the LR mix or to a stereo channel.

Tons of power under the hood

Those guys and gals at Allen & Heath definitely know mixers. And their ZED series is super popular for a number of reasons, not the least of which because it puts first-Class A&H quality at a new affordable price point. This is a mixer your band is going to be proud to use. More than that, it sounds great. We’ve already mentioned a bit about the I/O capabilities, but you’ll also want to know that it has four aux sends available — 1 and 2 are pre-fade and 3 and 4 are post-fade for monitoring with effects. Here’s the magic. You can send a stereo signal from the auxes via USB right to your computer, so you can create two separate record feeds that are totally independent of the main L/R mix. The ZED-22 FX is Mac and PC compatible and you’ve got three send/return configurations for recording, playback, and external FX. That’s a lot of power.

    Onboard Effects

Now for the effects. Onboard, 16 separate effects have been crafted into the ZED-22 FX mixer, ready for any kind of live sound material you face. These include a number of useful delays and reverbs, including a ping-pong delay and a selection of reverbs with different room/hall/arena properties. You’ll also dig the flanger and chorus. Every effect has a parameter you can tweak to dial in your sound and five of the effects support tap tempo for really getting into the groove. All in all, with the combination of mic/line inputs (and these preamps are awesome, by the way), professional effects, recording capabilities, and bullet-proof construction, you can’t go wrong with the Allen & Heath ZED-22 FX. Get one!

    AlphaTheta’s Gold-standard Performance Power – Evolved

Each new generation of the CDJ raises the bar for world-class DJ performance, and with AlphaTheta now carrying the mantle, the CDJ-3000X continues that legacy in full force. The shoes left by its predecessor were anything but easy to fill, yet AlphaTheta’s engineers spent five years refining, testing, and integrating global feedback to ensure the CDJ-3000X would stand tall in the vaunted CDJ lineage. Under the hood, extensive fine-tuning is paired with an upgraded connectivity suite, leaving our gigging DJs stunned by the effortless flexibility of the all-new NFC reader, enhanced playlist editing, and expanded 16-track capacitive touchscreen. Adding to that, the new ESS DAC faithfully reproduces every musical detail with surgical precision, whether you’re spinning with Serato, rekordbox, or any audio source. Advanced Smart and Gate Cue features push creative performance possibilities even further, while USB-C ports, built-in Wi-Fi, and full rekordbox CloudDirectPlay support streamline access to your entire library — from club classics and rare gems to unreleased remixes and legendary edits. And that’s only the beginning.

Gate and Smart Cue: optimized for live innovation

Among the numerous performance-focused advancements made with the CDJ-3000X, AlphaTheta’s transformation of the player’s Cue capabilities opens explosive new vectors of live mixing potential. Your Hot Cue workflow has been overhauled to accommodate real-time track processing and analysis, while the Touch Cue feature lets you not only preview a track from any point on the waveform with just a touch, but you can also set Hot Cues at the same time. What’s more, Smart Cue makes this process even smoother, giving you a way to overwrite cue points instantly. For the DJs craving high-energy interactivity, Gate Cue is the answer. When enabled, Gate Cue transforms your Hot Cues into something more like a sampler or groovebox, playing audio only while the Cue button is pressed, supporting a deluge of beat juggling, mixing, and further imaginative performance possibilities.

NFC touchpoint and seamless support — USB stick, optional

With the advancements made to rekordbox’s mobile iOS/Android app, CloudDirectPlay, and the broader ecosystem of live-performance technologies, AlphaTheta endowed the CDJ-3000X with an NFC reader, conveniently mounted on the front of the unit. Now, using only your smartphone and the latest version of the rekordbox app, you can instantly access the entirety of your cloud-based library, including all of the tagging and cue points you’ve processed and added to your sets. Similarly, this same single sign-on support works with a QR code. Built-in Wi-Fi mitigates cable clutter, while a trio of USB-C connections guarantees lightning-fast communication and information transfer across laptops, smart devices, and external storage. Plus, the CDJ-3000X automatically caches each track you load, straight onto the unit, meaning any accidental disconnections to USB drives or external devices, as well as disruptions to your internet connection, won’t hinder playback.

    Expanded horizons, engineered for endurance

The next-gen AlphaTheta CDJ-3000X trades its predecessor’s 9-inch resistive touchscreen for a vibrant, 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, expanding your view to display 16 tracks at once, while interactivity across real-time playlist editing, tagging, cue-marking, Key Sync performance features, and beyond. On the hardware side, the robust aluminum chassis was constructed to guarantee durability in any club or festival environment. Moreover, AlphaTheta’s engineers utilized their state-of-the-art testing facilities to drastically reinforce the Play and Cue buttons, each of which was built to withstand 500,000 presses. And since each purchase of an AlphaTheta CDJ-3000X automatically unlocks rekordbox Performance Mode, you’re ready to roll right out of the box.

Global Tag List: anywhere-editing, one convenient location

The on-device editing and extended view of the larger high-resolution touchscreen are a major boon to on-the-fly adjustments that won’t sacrifice your flow, but performance enhancements don’t stop there. The capacitive touchscreen lets you copy track information and paste it directly into the search bar, and thanks to the use of Cloud Library Sync, all edits, playlists, tags, and Cue information is shared across devices, automatically. Similarly, the Global Tag List supercharges your media management, putting all information into a singular playlist, regardless of origin — cloud storage, multiple USB drives, and integrated streaming platforms are all eligible. Plus, the CDJ-3000X immensely reduces the processing time required to call up your rekordbox CloudDirectPlay information, alongside online music-store browsing, guaranteeing ultra-smooth operation that feels as painless as working straight from a USB drive.

Built for high-fidelity ferocity and next-level mixing

Thanks to the slew of wired and wireless audio-retrieval options, AlphaTheta tapped the industry-leading expertise of ESS Technology to guarantee every crowd is steeped in depth, detail, and multidimensional dynamism. The new-to-3000X DAC (digital-to-analog converter) promises uncompromising fidelity and prismatic depth, spanning a heaping 4Hz–40kHz frequency response, with a 115dB S/N ratio (signal-to-noise) and near-zero 0.0018% THD (total harmonic distortion). Expanded cloud and streaming support includes Dropbox, Google Drive, Tidal, and Beatport, making the new playlist-banking capabilities even more powerful, collecting your tracks into easy-to-find collections, regardless of source. Furthermore, the CDJ-3000X includes a refined jog wheel that lets you get tailor its responsiveness and vinyl-speed behavior to suit your needs — a feature that gets even more mileage when you consider that the 3000X now offers doubling and halving modes for the grid. Perfect beat-matching precision has never been this effortlessly achieved.

Pro DJ Link, Key Sync, and more return

Every advancement made to the CDJ-3000X was methodically considered by AlphaTheta’s visionary designers, ensuring that both new and returning features are supercharged for limitless sonic potential. With the Pro DJ Link port, multiple CDJs, mixers, and compatible hardware can share tags, cues, and further data, processed in real time, meaning that use with a DJS-1000, for example, preserves this information as you bounce across tracks, channels, cues, and effects. Thanks to the creative potential of the new Gate Cue tools, as well as the finesse supported by the larger capacitive touchscreen, the sonic manipulation of the kaleidoscopic Key Sync and Key Shift tools unlocks complex, imaginative, hands-on creativity, from subtle shifts to polychromic pitch-warping wizardry.

Smart tools and controls for effects and faders are complemented by dynamic performance pads and flexible interfacing capabilities for monitoring and streaming, ensuring the AlphaTheta DDJ-FLX2 supports the furthest reaches of your newfound DJ journey. Are you ready to step up your setup?

DJ your way with comprehensive connectivity

The popularity of streaming services can be a double-edged sword for DJs. On one hand, the near-limitless styles and sounds of musicians across the globe have never been so accessible. On the other hand, this accessibility means you have so many more places to discover diamonds in the rough and call up time-tested club bangers, creating a greater demand for compatibility. Fortunately, AlphaTheta designed the DDJ-FLX2 to work with nearly any configuration, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop machines running Mac or PC operating systems — all are welcome to the DJ domain. What’s more, the DDJ-FLX2 accommodates multiple streaming platforms across Apple Music, Beatport Streaming, Beatsource Streaming, SoundCloud Go+, SoundCloud DJ, and Tidal. No matter your method, the DDJ-FLX2 is ready to (scratch and) roll, from on-the-go mixes and dorm room rehearsals to all-night barn burners and dancefloor delight.

Pro-tier performances and seamless Smart controls

Have you found yourself in awe of your favorite DJs’ ability to seamlessly spin effects, transitions, and beat-juggling into a fluid mix? Don’t worry: you don’t need to be scheduled to headline next year’s Ultra main stage to integrate these elements into your sets, thanks to a slew of Smart controls AlphaTheta meticulously designed for the DDJ-FLX2. Using the Smart CFX and Smart Fader features, pro-tier transitions and ferocious effects are effortlessly implemented in your mix. With just the twist of a knob, Smart CFX captures the complex, detailed techniques used by your favorite DJs, allowing you to inject multitudes of dazzling and dynamic flourishes into your set, evocatively gluing tracks together or emphasizing key moments with boundless sonic color whenever the groove moves you. Smart Fader, on the other hand, is your all-in-one transition tool, commanding a triumvirate of volume, tempo, and bass controls to painlessly mix tracks, regardless of the differences in tempo. Just push the crossfader and let DDJ-FLX2 handle the heavy lifting.

    Decks are just the beginning

The DDJ-FLX2’s robust jog wheels provide plenty of heft to dial in even the finest of flourishes with ease, but this controller’s menagerie of mixing capabilities goes beyond its dynamic decks. Enter Pad Mode. Sixteen performance pads adorn the controller’s surface, expanding your performance palette to include a variety of possibilities. Using hot cues, for example, you can mark any point of a track, bookmark it, and jump straight to it at any time, while Pad FX lets you implement a diverse array of effects with the press of a pad to personalize your sets even further. For the adventurous among us, the Sampler mode is your blank check to cash with an endlessly customizable armada of samples, sounds, one-shots, and even drums for the finger drummers looking to augment their grooves.

    Plug-and-play any way

Thanks to its lightweight yet durable design and its fluid, all-in-one form factor, the DDJ-FLX2 is ready to roll whenever you’re raring to go. Its multidimensional compatibility goes beyond devices, operating systems, and sound sources, with its USB-C port pulling double-duty for both bus power and source connections, letting you DJ virtually anywhere, any time you like. Plus, its duo of audio output jacks lets you independently adjust a master signal and a headphone-monitoring signal, enabling you to bring the party everywhere you go.
