The MKH 418-S utilizes a mid-side design and an extremely focused directional pickup to accurately represent space in stereo recordings. This results in significantly more dynamic sound capturing compared to other similar shotgun mics, with an internal shotgun mic for capturing mid signals and a second mic capturing side signals in a figure-8 polar pattern.
